SALT LINES live!
a slam poetry show
of being basic to the earth
in honor of women's history month
with

Andrea Gibson, Tara Hardy, Sonya Renee, and Denise Jolly

Saturday March 28th, 2009
8:00pm
Annabel Taylor Hall Auditorium
$10 donation suggested (all are welcome, regardless of ability to meet donation)

In honor of women's history month, the four powerhouses Andrea Gibson (Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion), Denise Jolly (Seattle Poetry Slam), Sonya Renee (Individual National Poetry Slam Champion), and Tara Hardy (Bent Writing Institute) are coming to Cornell to give a slam poetry/a'cappella performance meant to bring the audience to their feet in release, revolt, and redemption. Sonya, Tara, Andrea and Denise are performers, educators, facilitators, developers, and believers in the human ability to create change by honoring and expressing personal, cultural, and social history. This verbal quartet will storm, sing, slam, and sling salt into the eye of all that has ever silenced voices meant to be heard. Their celebration is one of being basic to the earth as salt--necessary, life allowing, wound stinging, heart-wrenching inspiration to live profoundly. The show is not to be missed!

DASH co-sponsored event, meant to shake the sexist, heteronormative, gender constraining foundations of this society. All are welcome.

LGBT Students Demand Voice
Written by Aly T. Blum
Sunday, 22 February 2009

Cornell’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning community has gone without a permanent director or an office manager of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning Resource Center (LGBTQ RC) since the summer, and without an assistant dean of Students/Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning Outreach (LGBTQ) for a year and a half.

“As a community, our members are disproportionately more likely to be homeless, lack family support at home (both financial and emotional), and are disproportionately more likely to abuse substances and be prone to suicide than non-LGBT peers … These facts are not meant to pathologize or degrade our community — but they are meant to make the obvious point that we need administrative support,” Ashley McGovern ’09, Courtney Finerty ’09, Aly Blum ’09, Olivia Tai ’10 and Jen Inloes ’09, LGBT organization student leaders, stated in a joint statement.
