"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) is the common term for the military policy that bans openly lesbian, gay and bisexual Americans from serving in the military. Since the law's 1994 implementation under the Clinton Administration, recent statistics have shown that more than 12,500 women and men have been discharged. Today, gay service members are still harassed based on their perceived sexual orientation and gender expression and serve in fear of losing their careers and livelihoods.

Aaron Tax (Cornell Class of 1998) is the Legal Co-Director of The Servicemembers Legal Defense Network--a non-partisan, non-profit, watchdog and policy organization dedicated to ending discrimination and harassment of military personnel. His firm provides confidential legal services to those impacted by the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy and related discrimination and works to ensure the equal treatment of every service member, regardless of sexual orientation.

In this pressing talk, Aaron will talk about the future of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and the presence of LGBT people in the military. What is DADT and how does DADT affect homophobia and transphobia in the military and society at large? Come and engage in a conversation about what's being done to challenge "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", why, and what still needs to be done.... and how you can get involved!

ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND.
