THURSDAY APRIL 23rd 2009

5:00PM in G90 Myron Taylor Hall

DASH presents a  talk on the future of the DADT military policy and its affect on LGBT servicemembers and the US military

"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) is the common term for the military policy that bans openly lesbian, gay and bisexual Americans from serving in the military. Since the law's 1994 implementation under the Clinton Administration, recent statistics have shown that more than 12,500 women and men have been discharged. Today, gay service members are still harassed based on their perceived sexual orientation and gender expression and serve in fear of losing their careers and livelihoods.

SALT LINES live!
a slam poetry show
of being basic to the earth
in honor of women's history month
with

Andrea Gibson, Tara Hardy, Sonya Renee, and Denise Jolly

Saturday March 28th, 2009
8:00pm
Annabel Taylor Hall Auditorium
$10 donation suggested (all are welcome, regardless of ability to meet donation)

In honor of women's history month, the four powerhouses Andrea Gibson (Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion), Denise Jolly (Seattle Poetry Slam), Sonya Renee (Individual National Poetry Slam Champion), and Tara Hardy (Bent Writing Institute) are coming to Cornell to give a slam poetry/a'cappella performance meant to bring the audience to their feet in release, revolt, and redemption. Sonya, Tara, Andrea and Denise are performers, educators, facilitators, developers, and believers in the human ability to create change by honoring and expressing personal, cultural, and social history. This verbal quartet will storm, sing, slam, and sling salt into the eye of all that has ever silenced voices meant to be heard. Their celebration is one of being basic to the earth as salt--necessary, life allowing, wound stinging, heart-wrenching inspiration to live profoundly. The show is not to be missed!

DASH co-sponsored event, meant to shake the sexist, heteronormative, gender constraining foundations of this society. All are welcome.
